The Story of Shiva and Shakti: Finding Balance in Life
Hey friends! Today we’re delving into the fascinating world of Shiva and Shakti!
This isn’t just some old myth but a beautiful lesson in balance and harmony that transcends time and culture.
We would all do well to learn to balance our inner Shiva and Shakti. Let’s find out how!

The Dynamic Duo: Shiva and Shakti
Our story begins with the ultimate power couple in Hindu mythology and yoga philosophy: Shiva the Destroyer and the goddess Shakti.
Although his name might sound a little scary, Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation, is all about stillness and consciousness.
By contrast, Shakti, the goddess of creation and dynamic power, brings the energy and movement to the party.
Think of this dynamic duo as the yin and yang of the universe.
Without Shakti, Shiva is just chilling and doing nothing besides sitting in meditation contemplating life and the universe.
Without Shiva, Shakti is all over the place with her creative juices flowing willy-nilly with no direction.

A Love Story for the Ages
Legend has it that Shiva was deep in meditation on Mount Kailash when Sati, an incarnation of Shakti, fell head over heels for him.
Despite her dad’s major disapproval, Sati’s love never wavered. She won Shiva’s heart, and their union became a symbol of spiritual unity.
But drama struck when Sati sacrificed herself because her dad disrespected Shiva. Heartbroken, Shiva went into seclusion, causing chaos.
Luckily, Sati was reborn as Parvati and brought Shiva back, balancing the world again. Phew!

Finding Your Inner Balance
The story of Shiva and Shakti teaches us that, whatever our gender, we all have both masculine and feminine energies.
When these energies are out of whack we might feel stressed, disconnected, or even burnt out.
Here are some fun ways to balance these energies in your life:
Yoga and Meditation: Try out some asanas (yoga postures) and breathing exercises to harmonise your inner energies.
My personal favourite is ‘Yin to Vin’ yoga practices because they blend both feminine and masculine energies perfectly.
This Yin to Vin Beginner Yoga for Mornings on YouTube is a great place to start – whatever your yoga experience!

Mindfulness: Engage in activities that keep you present, like taking a mindful walk in nature or just enjoying a cup of tea without scrolling through Instagram. Or try a more formal practice like this breath awareness meditation on Insight Timer. Side note: If you’re not familiar with it, Insight Timer is a fantastic app with lots of useful tools for meditation and mindfulness. Check it out and give me a follow while you’re there!
Creativity and Logic: Strive for balance between time spent on creative pursuits (Shakti energy) with some logical tasks (Shiva energy). Think pairing a Zumba class with a well-organised to-do list.
Self-Care: Treat yourself with some self-care routines to bring a little more feminine energy into your day. This Face Yoga routine on my YouTube channel is a great place to start.
Connection and Solitude: Spend time with loved ones but also enjoy your own company. Sometimes, a night in with a good book is just what you need.

Embrace Your Inner Shiva and Shakti
Remember, the dance of Shiva and Shakti is within us all.
By balancing these energies, we can live a more joyful and harmonious life.
So, whether you’re doing yoga, walking in nature, or just being your fabulous self, let the story of Shiva and Shakti inspire you to find your own balance.
Stay balanced & fabulous, my friends.
Until next time, wishing you Less Stress & More Yoga ✨
